The strong roots of 5 Oceans can be traced back to more than 10 years ago when we imported and commercialized fresh tuna from India and Sri Lanka. Our local experience in the fishing industry in Asia and the European markets are the foundation of a solid and reliable business.
Because of our connection to the production company in South India, where the founder Chris Hoydonckx personally led a few industrial projects over the past 20 years, we are in a perfect position to think along with our customers and to develop new products.
The importance that we attach to values and ethics with 5Oceans can be found directly on the production site.
SUSTAINABILITY
There are quite a few misunderstandings about fish and tuna in particular. For example, Bluefin tuna and Bigeye tuna are indeed endangered and/or vulnerable. Therefore, we work fully and exclusively with Skipjack tuna, a kind that receives the green label (not endangered).
We consciously opt for traditional fishing, which gives us the assurance that our raw materials are always fresh when they arrive and are processed in the factory. It also offers us the opportunity to implement sustainable labels such as Dolphin Safe, Friend of the Sea and future-oriented MSC.

SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT
Creating security and continuity towards livelihood for a vulnerable group of people with invaluable knowledge and understanding of fishing is a pillar of our business. The production unit therefore wants to be BSCI-certified (Business Social Compliance Initiative) and wants to set up its own initiatives with a social and humanitarian goal. In this way, we are building a "fair trade".
ECOLOGICALLY SOUND PRODUCTION
The power required to control production and provide the office with electricity is 100% extracted from solar panels.
The water needed to obtain steam is pumped out of its own drilled well and recycled mainly in a closed circuit to waste as little drinking water as possible. For example, the generated and used steam is sent through a condenser and then flowing as water again to the steam boiler.
This way, we consciously keep our own ecological footprint as low as possible and are caring and respectful of nature.
